Welcome from the University of Michigan Center for Disability Health and Wellness!

Our mission is to develop and apply innovative research, clinical, and educational strategies to address inequities in health care access, quality, and outcomes experienced by individuals with physical, sensory, and developmental disabilities across the lifespan.

Our vision is of working in partnership with members of the disability community to ensure that all people, regardless of type or severity of disability, have full access to quality health care and to wellness activities personalized to their background, strengths, and needs.

Health Equity Month

Michigan Medicine Healthcare Equity Month is intended to raise awareness, encourage action and showcase Michigan Medicine- and U-M-led efforts around systemic health care inequities experienced by historically marginalized and underrepresented groups.
The CDHW is joining this initiative by hosting two events.

In this AHEAD-DC RRTC (Advancing Health Equity for Adults with Disabilities from Diverse Communities Rehabilitation Research and Training Center) event, Dr. Bentley shares her latest research exploring perinatal mental health disparities across race/ethnicity disability. She invites the audience to join an engaging discussion of study findings approaches developing inclusive interventions policies that promote greater equity in care.

Creating Equitable Access for Individuals with Disabilities: A Panel Discussion

This panel discussion will bring together representatives of both disability organizations and healthcare systems to discuss issues of healthcare access and discuss resources and best practices to support equitable care.

Open Discussion Hour

Join us the 2nd Thursday of each month from 10-11am for our Open Discussion Hour. The next Open Discussion Hour will be held on Thursday, April 11th, 2024 at 10am.  

This opportunity is great for anyone who would like to share about existing projects and explore potential collaborations with the U-M CDHW, including (but not limited to) student groups, medical students looking for insight into current U-M CDHW projects, and current U-M CDHW members who would like to share ideas.
